Health Ministry Distributes Medicines in Western Bahr el Ghazal, Minister Urges Responsible Use
The Minister of Health in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Dr. Francis Michael Hassan, confirmed Monday that the state has received a new consignment of medicines from the National Ministry of Health, in collaboration with partners including UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and Cordaid.
Speaking to the media in Wau, Dr. Hassan revealed that the delivery, consisting of 10 trucks of medical supplies, will be distributed across all three counties in the state, including the Wau Teaching Hospital.
“We have received medicines from our partners and the Ministry of Health. These will be distributed equally across the counties and the main hospital in Wau.” The Minister explained.
However, Minister Hassan acknowledged that the supply is not sufficient to cover needs for more than three months, attributing the shortfall to the high influx of patients from various regions. “Due to the high number of patients coming from different areas, the medicines are not enough to last three months.”
Dr. Hassan urged hospital staff to use the medicines strictly for the benefit of citizens and not for personal gain. “We appeal to medical personnel to serve our people selflessly. These medicines are for public health, not private benefit.”
He affirmed the ministry’s ongoing collaboration with health partners to ensure a continuous supply of medicines, particularly during the approaching rainy season.
In related developments, local leaders from Baggari Payam of Wau County and Deim Zubair in Raja County have appealed to the Ministry to improve access to essential medicines in their respective areas due to critical shortages.
