MTN MoMo Addresses Cash Shortage at Agent Outlets, Urges Public to Embrace Digital Payments
Juba, South Sudan –
MoMo Fintech has responded to growing public concerns over limited cash availability at agent outlets, assuring customers that immediate steps are being taken to address the issue while promoting a shift toward digital payment systems.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, MTN MoMo acknowledged that some users have faced difficulties withdrawing money from select agents. The company emphasized ongoing collaboration with banks and partners to implement interoperable digital payment solutions.
> “We are working with all banks and partners to create interoperable digital payment solutions,” the statement read. “This includes MoMo Pay, international remittances, school fees payment, and bank push-and-pull services.”
Francis Matseketsa, CEO of MTN MoMo Fintech, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to driving financial inclusion by widening access to digital financial services. He highlighted the importance of international remittances and encouraged merchants to accept mobile money payments as a viable alternative to cash.
Addressing additional customer grievances, MTN MoMo’s Senior Manager, Hussein Samanya, condemned the illegal practice of agents charging unauthorized withdrawal fees. He noted that customers were alerted via SMS last week and urged them to report any agents who violate the company’s policy.
The fintech service further encouraged customers to leverage MoMo for everyday transactions — including purchasing goods, paying for services, sending and receiving money both locally and internationally, and paying school fees. Currently, more than 30 schools across South Sudan are accepting MoMo payments.
While recognizing that South Sudan is still in the early stages of adopting digital payments, MTN MoMo emphasized that reducing dependency on cash is crucial for long-term financial stability and economic growth.
> “Creating a cashless society is a journey which cannot be completed overnight,” the company stated. “We believe the journey has started and we all need to embrace it.”
